Curb

Concrete Curb Calculator

A curb and gutter is a length times a cross section. The presets are starting sketches, not a city standard.

Common sizes

Most orders add 5–10% for spillage, uneven ground, and the last bit left in the chute.

This job

Add each pour — slab, piers, steps — and Concrete Calculator totals them.

How to use a concrete curb calculator

Cross section = curb height × curb width + gutter width × gutter thickness. Multiply by length. Presets are sketches — replace them with the city or site detail. Battered faces need a measured section, not a guess from a residential preset.

Driveway cuts interrupt the extrusion. Measure each continuous run and add them. Spill at starts and stops is why waste stays on the order even when the section math is clean.

Worked example with the concrete curb calculator

6×6 in curb + 12×4 in gutter → section = 0.5×0.5 + 1×0.333 = 0.583 ft². ×40 = 23.3 ft³ = 0.86 yd³ neat. A 200 ft street run of the same section is about 4.3 yd³ neat before waste.

Municipal details vs residential presets

If the subdivision detail shows a different gutter pan or curb face, type those inches. Concrete Calculator will not override a stamped detail with a homepage preset. Pair long curb runs with the driveway calculator when aprons pour the same day.

Common mistakes

Using a preset when the detail differs.

  • Forgetting driveway cuts where the extrusion restarts.

Bags, yards, or a truck?

Street lengths add yards quickly; a short residential run may still be bags.

The formula Concrete Calculator uses

Length × (curb H×W + gutter W×T).

Section takeoffs from details

Pull curb height, curb width, gutter width, and gutter thickness from the stamped detail. Convert inches to feet, compute section area, multiply by length. Battered curb faces can be treated as average width rectangles or triangles added to the section — match the drawing, not the preset.

Concrete curb calculator searches without gutters should zero the gutter terms. Long municipal runs should be split at driveway cuts so each continuous extrusion is its own length.

Per-foot shortcut

Once the section area is known, multiply by length. A 0.583 ft² section is 0.022 yd³ per foot neat. A 100 ft run is 2.16 yd³ neat before waste. Change the detail, recompute the section — do not keep the residential preset on a municipal pan.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate curb and gutter?

Find section area, multiply by length.

What if the curb is not rectangular?

Break the detail into rectangles or take area off the standard drawing.

Waste?

Extruded curb loses material at starts and driveways — keep 5–10%.

Only curb, no gutter?

Set gutter width or thickness to zero, or use a single rectangle section.
