How to use a poured concrete wall cost calculator
A poured wall is a tall, thin rectangle: length × height × thickness. An 8 inch wall uses 0.667 ft³ per square foot of face. Openings are not auto-deducted — shorten the length or height yourself, or accept a small over-order. Door and window bucks that stay in place still displace a little concrete; large openings should come out of the takeoff.
Retaining walls need a designed section and footing. Calculate the wall and footing as separate pours. Stem walls often pour with the footing — still enter them separately if the sizes differ so the ticket stays honest.
Worked example with the poured concrete wall cost calculator
20 × 4 × 0.667 = 53.3 ft³ = 1.98 yd³ neat. Face area = 80 ft² for an installed price check. A 40 ft × 8 ft × 8 in basement wall run is 79.0 ft³ per 10 ft of length — scale carefully before you call.
Block walls vs poured walls
If you are laying CMU instead of pouring, switch to the block calculator for block and mortar counts. Grouted cells are a different volume again. This page is for solid poured concrete between forms.
Common mistakes
Forgetting the footing under the wall.
- Counting openings twice or not at all.
- Using block-wall habits on a poured section.
Bags, yards, or a truck?
Walls of a few yards are short trucks. Stem walls often pour with the footing — still enter them separately if sizes differ.
The formula Concrete Calculator uses
ft³ = L × H × T. Area for cost/ft² = L × H.

Stem walls and retaining seats
Stem walls are short poured walls on footings. Calculate the wall and footing as two pours even when they cast the same day — sizes differ. Retaining wall concrete calculator searches sometimes want gravity or cantilever sections; those thicknesses come from a design. Once you have thickness, height, and length, this page finishes the yards.
Poured concrete wall cost calculator workflows: face area × installed $/ft², or volume × $/yd plus forms. Enter the quote you have; do not blend scopes.
Openings and face area
A 30 ft wall, 8 ft high, 8 in thick is 160 ft² of face × 0.667 ≈ 5.93 yd³ neat before openings. Two 3×7 doors remove 42 ft² of face — about 1.04 yd³ — if those openings are real voids in the pour. Bucks that remain in place displace less; when unsure, over-order slightly rather than cold-joint a basement wall.

Frequently asked questions
How much concrete in an 8 inch wall?
0.667 ft³ per ft² of face. 100 ft² ≈ 2.47 yd³.
Does this include the footing?
No. Add it on the footing calculator.
What about openings?
Subtract their area from the face, or shorten dimensions.
Retaining wall?
Volume only after you have a designed thickness and footing — then use wall + footing pours.
